The Business
Shopguard is a Hungarian retail security company providing product display and anti-theft solutions for retailers. The company's mobile phone display security solution was losing market share across the EU, USA, and Australia as retailer expectations changed and competing solutions gained ground.
The Challenge
Retailers needed stronger protection for high-theft environments, but they were moving away from audible alarm-based systems. Store teams wanted mobile display security that was reliable, mechanical, fast to use, and less disruptive to the customer experience. Shopguard needed a product direction that matched the new retail buying criteria and could regain relevance across international markets.
What Robert Did
- Identified a clear market shift away from audible alarms and toward mechanical security with quick-release usability
- Defined the commercial opportunity around the intersection of theft protection, staff usability, and customer experience
- Developed the product brand and supporting marketing collateral
- Tested prototypes and refined the product direction based on practical retail requirements
- Built the design specification to guide product development
- Tested the solution in retail environments to validate usability, security, and commercial fit
"Robert brought a level of commercial clarity that changed the direction of the product. He identified what the market actually needed, shaped the product strategy around it, and stayed with us through prototype testing and retail validation. The result speaks for itself: a patented solution, adopted by major retailers worldwide, and one of the most successful products in our range."
Dr. Sandor Z. Ambrus, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Shopguard Systems Limited
Why It Matters
This project shows the Bodill Ventures approach in practice: identify the commercial trend, translate it into a product opportunity, build the positioning, validate the solution, and support execution until the product is commercially useful. The work connected market insight, product strategy, brand, collateral, prototype testing, retail validation, and commercialisation.
